With all the snow we’ve had this year, there is a lot of de-icing salt on the roads and sidewalks. It’s easy to track salt onto your clothes, especially the cuffs of your pants. But don’t let it sit! If left untreated, salt can dull the colors of your garments and leave unsightly stains.
If you do end up with salt stains on your clothes, here’s a few tips for dealing with them:
For weather-proof items– coats, snow boots, etc.– mix water with a little bit of vinegar (1 tbsp. vinegar to 1 quart water), and dip a soft cloth in the mixture. Gently scrub the affected area clean with this cloth, and you’ll see the stains get cleared away.
For other items, don’t just throw them in the washer! Let the stain dry, and then use a cheap hairbrush (or anything with soft bristles) to wipe off the granules of salt.
Of course, there’s an even easier option. On your designated pickup day, just leave your clothes out in your green bag, and Green Village Cleaners will take care of all the stains for you. Our whole business is dedicated to making your life a little simpler and a little cleaner.
